Understanding "Qi2"

The next-generation wireless charging standard was developed by the Wireless Power Consortium (WPC). Its defining feature is integrated Magnetic Alignment for improved efficiency, speed, and user experience.

Magnetic Power Profile (MPP)

The core technical specification within the Qi2 standard. It defines the protocol for secure magnetic attachment and communication between charger and device, enabling optimal power transfer.

Magnetic Alignment

The automatic, precise attachment between a Qi2 charger and device via integrated magnets. This ensures perfect coil positioning for maximum efficiency and eliminates placement guesswork.

Interoperability

The guarantee that any Qi2-certified charger will work seamlessly with any Qi2-certified receiving device, providing a consistent and reliable user experience across brands.

Qi2 Certification

A formal testing and authorization process is conducted by the WPC. Products must pass this rigorous testing to bear the official "Qi2 Certified" logo, ensuring safety, performance, and compatibility.

Extended Power Profile (EPP)

The power protocol within Qi2 that supports fast wireless charging at up to 15W for compatible devices, matching previous magnetic charging systems.

Backward Compatibility

The ability of a Qi2 charger to wirelessly charge older, Qi-certified devices (v1.2.4 or later), though without magnetic alignment or the full 15W fast charging capability.

Foreign Object Detection (FOD)

A critical safety feature mandated by the Qi2 standard. The charger detects metallic objects like keys or coins between the coils and automatically reduces or stops power transfer to prevent overheating.
