What is GG45

GG45 (Data Connector)

In computer networking, GG45 is a specialized copper cable connector developed by Nexans for Category 7 (Cat 7) and Cat 7A high-speed structured cabling systems. It was standardized as IEC 60603-7-7 and is designated within the ISO/IEC 11801 cabling standard. Its core feature is a dual-mode, 12-contact design: it has the standard 8 contacts of an RJ45 jack, plus 4 additional contacts.

Backward Compatibility: It is fully backward compatible with common RJ45 plugs. When an RJ45 plug is inserted, it uses the standard 8 contacts.

High-Performance Mode: When a dedicated GG45 plug is inserted, internal switching activates a different set of 8 contacts (including the new ones), enabling performance up to 600-1000 MHz or higher, which supports 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) and beyond over copper cabling.
